Recommended Books & Authors

Over the years, I have been continually asked to recommend important and engaging books in the areas of my work. I am delighted to provide recommendations of my favorite authors.

I can also recommend these:

There are so many authors who whole-heartedly embrace the insights and understandings of full psycho-spiritual living. This is a very incomplete list, but it’s a great start!

No one writes about the body/mind/spirit connection quite like Deepak Chopra. Some of my favourite titles of his are:

  • How To Know God: The Soul’s Journey into the Mystery of Mysteries
  • Life After Death: The Burdon of Proof
  • The Deeper Wound: Recovering the Soul from Fear and Suffering
  • The Book of Secrets: Unlocking the Hidden Dimensions of Your Life
  • The Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents: Guiding Your Children to Success and Fulfillment: Fire in the Heart: A Spiritual Guide for Teens
  • Power, Freedom, and Grace: Living From the Source of Lasting Happiness
  • The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence
  • Everyday Immortality: A Concise Course in Spiritual Transformation
  • Perfect Health: The Complete Mind/Body Guide, revised and updated edition

If there is one spiritual principle we constantly need reminding of, it’s the importance and absolute necessity of being fully in the moment. Eckart Tolle:

  • The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment
  • Practicing the Power of Now: Essential Teachings, Meditations, and Exercises from The Power of Now
  • Stillness Speaks: A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose

There’s another way of looking at psychotherapy: energy psychology, transpersonal psychology, positive psychology, to name a few. Martin Seligman:

  • Authentic Happiness: Using the Power of Positive Psychology to Realize Your Potential for Lasting Fulfillment
  • Positive Psychology in Practice

And Ken Wilbur:

  • The Translucent Revolution: How People Just Like You are Waking Up and Changing the World
  • The Integral Vision: A Very Short Introduction to the Revolutionary Integral Approach to Life, God, the Universe and Everything
  • A Theory of Everything: An Integral Vision for Business, Politics, Science and Spirituality

And to that we add the oh-so-important emotional component. Thank you, Daniel Goldman:

  • Emotional Intelligence: Why It Matters More than I.Q.
  • Working with Emotional Intelligence
  • Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships

Gary Zukav’s been writing about the Soul since his ambitious, The Dancing Wu Li Masters. To that he added:

  • The Seat of the Soul
  • The Heart of the Soul: Emotional Awareness
  • The Mind of the Soul: Responsible Choice

Neale Donald Walsch took a shortcut, directly to God:

  • Conversations With God
  • Friendship with God
  • Communion with God
  • Tomorrow’s God: Our Greatest Spiritual Challenge
  • The New Revelations
  • Home with God: In a Life that Never Ends
  • Conversations with God for Teens
  • Recreating Your Self
  • What God Wants: A Compelling Answer to Humanity’s Biggest Question

I’m reminded of the heart-based channeled works by Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer (Orin and daBen):

  • Spiritual Growth: Being Your Higher Self
  • Creating Money: Keys to Abundance
  • Living with Joy: Keys to Personal Power and Spiritual Transformation
  • Personal Power Through Awareness: A Guidebook for Sensitive People
  • Soul Love: Awakening Your Heart Centers.

And speaking of the heart, there’s some great words written about deep sexuality, by David Deida:

  • Intimate Communion;
  • Finding God Through Sex;
  • The Enlightened Sex Manual: Sexual Skills for the Superior Lover;
  • Blue Truth: A Spiritual Guide to Life and Death and Love and Sex;

  • It’s a Guy Thing: An Owner’s Manual for Women;
  • The Way of the Superior Man: A Spiritual Guide to Mastering the Challenges of Women, Work, and Sexual Desire;
  • Wild Nights.

The best metaphysical symptoms books are still Louise Hay’s:

  • You Can Heal Your Life;
  • Heal Your Body from A-Z: The Mental Causes for Physical Illness and the Way to Overcome Them;
  • I Can Do It.

Medical intuitive Caroline Myss tells it like it is:

  • Why People Don’t Heal and How They Can;

  • Entering the Castle: An Inner Path to God and Your Soul;
  • Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing;
  • Sacred Contracts: Awakening Your Divine Potential;

Many of you have already begun reading some past-life regression books by Brian Weiss:

  • Many Lives, Many Masters;
  • Same Soul: Discover the Healing Power of Future Lives through Progression Therapy;
  • Only Love is Real: A Story of Soulmates Reunited;
  • Mirrors of Time: Using Regression for Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Healing;

But there's also, Karl Schlotterbeck's:

  • Living Your Past Lives: The Psychology of Past-Life Regression;
  • The Karma in Your Relationship: Bonds From Other Times and What They Want From Us.

Or, Roger Woolger's:

  • Other Lives, Other Selves: A Psychotherapist Discovers Past Lives;
  • Healing Your Past Lives: Exploring the Many Lives of the Soul

And we can include the children in the psychology of past lives with a book by Thomas Shroder:

  • Old Souls: Compelling Evidence from Children Who Remember Past Lives.

And especially Carol Bowman:

  • Children's Past Lives: How Past Life Memories Affect Your Child;
  • Return From Heaven: Beloved Relatives Reincarnated Within Your Family.

And there’s also a good basic commentary on the nature of reincarnation:

  • The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Reincarnation.

As well as a good basic commentary on the understanding of spirituality:

  • Spirituality for Dummies.

Even our choice in food and diet has a larger scope than we might have considered.  John Robbins:
